A Tower that's Really a Tower992 viewsAT&T and Sprint occupy the tower above this building in Temecula, California. The antennas are located adjacent to the 'windows', and the equipment cabinets are hidden by the roof parapets. The name of the center is, oddly, the Tower Plaza! A very good design, indeed.

Days'd and Confused1117 viewsNextel need only extend the flashing to and across the top of its antenna enclosure to make this a very good site.
|
|

Days'd and Confused908 viewsJust a bit more flashing, if you please.
|
|

Now you see it; now you shouldn't.1384 viewsAs an example of how to ALMOST construct a camouflaged site, look at this photograph. Nextel's camo box fails to extend the flashing around the top of its enclosure. As a result, from ground level you can see the coaxial cables running over the top parapet to the camo box. I've created a photo simulation to illustrate how little it would have taken to complete the camouflage for this site, and the benefits of that little effort. Planners, think about these things...they will make a great difference in the result of your work.

Well, it's mostly a camo site!1068 viewsNotice how the panel antennas peek over the top of the faux-whatcha-ma-call-it. This is possibly due to an antenna change out that didn't consider (or perhaps care) about the length of the new antenna.
Not a good design.

Camo, almost matching... (2 of 2)618 viewsThis Cingular site is a good example of the need to carefully plan how much of an existing wall will be replaced with a fiberglass camo panel. In this case, the cut out portion of the wall, now replaced with a painted/textured RF transparent panel, is clearly visible. A better approach would have been for the carrier to cut from wood panel edge to panel edge so that the difference, if visible, would have been more uniform.

Camo on an apartment building824 viewsIt was a hard call: Is this a camo or non-camo site? Well, the antennas are hidden behind the enclosure on the right side of the roof, but there was no attempt to hide the BTS equipment in the middle of the roof. Overall, a very poor design.

Camo-ish on-building cell site (close-up)1490 viewsLook at how the antennas are covered with the brick-link material. Also note the color bands on the antenna cables. The color bands are used to show the service technician which cables are for transmitting, and which are receiving. The color bands also indicate additional information such as the antenna 'sector' and data transmission.

Camofulaged AML Receive Site?2776 viewsBack in 1983 Storer Cable was trying to secure a microwave-receive site on a hillside in San Juan Capistrano. The architect retained by Storer lost most of his hair trying to get a design that would pass muster with the City. One night, in a fit of frustration, he came up with this design.
